Abstract

PIPI NURFA Determination Of Vitamin C Content In Mangkokan Leaves (Nothopanax scutellarium Merr) Using The Iodimetric Titration Method. Supervised By MUHAMMAD TASJIDDIN TEHENI and EVI MUSTIQAWATI.

Background: In Indonesia, mangkokan leaves (Nothopanax scutellarium Merr) are known as herbal plants that are often used in traditional medicine. This plant contains variouns bioactive compounds, including vitamin C, flavonoids, tannins and saponins. Among these compounds, vitamin C has a very important role in maintaining a healthy body condition and preventing the emergence of various health disorders in the body. Objective: to determine the level of vitamin C content in mangkokan leaves. Method: determination of vitamin C levels was applied using an iodimetric titration design. The form of study used was a laboratory experiment. This study consisted of two stages to ensure the presence of vitamin C, namely a qualitative test and a quantitative test. In the qualitative test, the addition of an iodine solution causes a color change to clear after reacting with vitamin in the sample, thus indicating the presence of vitamin C content in mangkokan leaves (Nothopanax scutellarium Merr). While in the quantitative test, the iodimetric titration method used was 0,01 N iodine solution as a titrant and starch as a benchmark thet determines the end point of the titration when the solution turns blue violet. Results: this titration analysis shows that the vitamin C content in mangkokan leaves is 42,24 mg/100 g. Conclusion: the study shows that mangkokan leaves have the potential to be a natural source of vitamin C that is beneficial for health.
